Clutching her side in her last desperate attempt to cling to the world of the living, a small kitten no bigger than the adult's knee crouched upon all fours while cursing her attacker with every fiber of her being. It was rare to see a child, feral or otherwise, at such means to those older than her. Age was wisdom, age commanded respect for those that lived in their troubled lives. Those who stayed alive the longest were the strongest to overcome the barriers that all inhabitants had gone through, a strength easily repeated time and time again with any new obstacles thrown their way.
